About Charter Rode
Charter Rode is building the Sailing Resume Blockchain – a secure, transparent, efficient, and tamper-proof maritime resume system enabled by blockchain technology.
The company started in 2021 with the idea that it should be easy to create a sailing resume that may be shared, verified, and trusted by anyone in the world.
The Sailing Resume Blockchain offers sailors a trusted and secure sailing resume that anyone can confidently use to determine their seaworthiness.
Banks, insurance companies, charter companies, education providers, and other organizations use the Sailing Resume Blockchain to grant credentials, verify sea time, evaluate competencies, and provide value-added services to mariners worldwide.

Our Founder

Jason Burns

Jason started with the idea of Charter Rode as he was searching for a solution to his own problem - how to keep track of his sailing experience and certifications so that as he traveled people that had a boat for bareboat charter would let him take it out.
After being disappointed that the digital logbooks available were marginally better than using Excel, or even paper, Jason had his flux capacitor moment. What if blockchain technology was used to create a logbook and sailing resume that was easy to share and that anyone could verify?
Six months later, early alpha versions of Charter Rode were released and Jason convinced his sailing buddy and friend Kyle to help test them out. 12 months later the genesis block was created and the Sailing Resume Blockchain was born.
Jason started sailing a decade ago on a Hobie Cat. It was a few seasons on local lakes before Jason was whipping around the lake dodging ski boats and tubers. At this time his wife signed him up for ASA 101 with Outbound Sailing. Moving up to larger boats, Jason continued his education and building sea experience aboard 45' catamarans in the US and British Virgin Islands as well as 30' monohulls on Lake Travis near Austin, Texas. Jason has completed ASA 101, 103, 104, 105, 106, 114, and holds the ASA International Proficiency Certificate (IPC).
With a long term goal of earning a US Coast Guard Charter Boat Captain license, Jason continues to build up his sea time and experience every chance he gets, logging it all on the Sailing Resume Blockchain.
